The Doberman Pinscher is a working dog by heritage, designed to perform the task of guard working and sentry duty. The breed can trace its origins back only as far as the 1880's, thereby classifying it as one of the most modern of the working breed. The namesake of the Doberman is Herr Louis Dobermann, a local Magistrate from Apolda, Germany. He is credited with having founded the initial strain, which classifies the Doberman Pinscher as a man made breed. The first exportations of Dobermans to the United States were in 1908.To succeed in the task, for which Dobermans have been bred, certain tendencies are of prime importance to their temperament. Fearlessness and aggressiveness are essential. To complement and enhance the value of these tendencies, the intelligence and retentiveness of the breed comes into play. Perhaps the Doberman Pinscher's finest character traits are his unquestioning obedience, its instinctively alert watchful temperament and loyalty to his master. |
